Port Salerno, Fl Martin - Thursday, June 03, 2004 at 12:34:18 (EDT)Dear Diana,
My girlfriend encouraged me to read "Outlander". She being from Scotland, she couldn't have enough good things to say about the book. Well after loaning it to me, I am totally addicted with the series. I am now reading "Voyager", and really find it hard to put it down as I felt about "Outlander" and "Dragonfly in Amber"! I love the romance and I find I get really absorbed in the adventures of Jamie and Claire. I also find myself wishing with all my heart there really was a circle of stones to go back 200 years in time. Thank you, thank you, thank you again. Sunny

Penryn, CA USA - Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at 14:22:06 (EDT)A couple of years ago I already had the chance of reading the wonderful tale of Jamie and Claire, as my mother was reading about them fervently. But somehow I was distracted by other things. Luckily a few weeks ago some collegues were discussing outlander and somewhere in the back of my mind I knew I had heard about them before. So ordered right away outlander from Amazon (will not read anything then the books in the original language) and was swept away! Before finishing part one (very glad to find out that there are five books!) I made sure I also had part two handy. Wow.. after reading outlander and dragonfly in Amber in two weeks time, I just have to give myself a break before reading drums of Autumn. So that I can linger on the memories shared now with Jamie and Claire before being swept away again!
Thank you Diana Gabaldon for creating the perfect novel!
ps( and thank you for creating once more the perfect man! ;0) )

the netherlands - Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at 02:18:23 (EDT)I bought the Cross stitch book at the newagents as I was catching a train. Started reading it and before I knew it I was three stops past where I should have been. The books are wonderful: funny, sad, emotional, cleansing, but very, very real. Your books opened a whole new life to me - my father was born in Scotland but emigrated as a child. My grand parents were proud Scots - My Pop wore his kilt and full regalia to my wedding - but they never really spoke of their heritage. I went to my first calling of the clans as a direct result of reading your books. I saw it advertised and knew what it was through your books. I asked my Pop and he came with me. While I was there I heard the old stories and songs, and it made me proud of my heritage. The scots are much more than just people with sexy accents! Thank you for your wonderful books. You have influenced people all over the world. Your books were mentioned as being the main reason at least a third of the people had attended - they were toasted in speeches and got their own round of applause. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

GA USA - Monday, May 17, 2004 at 12:51:30 (EDT) I hardly know how to begin telling Ms. Gabaldon how much she has impacted my "reading life" with her books. Let's just say that no man will ever match up to Jamie. (HA HA!) I don't remember reading another set of books that I absolutely wanted everyone I knew to read but every single person who has read it has fallen in love with it too- I think I have my whole office hooked! I just wanted Diana to know how these books have made me feel-I have laughed out loud (alone!), cried (make that sobbed), it's just indescribable how wonderful this series is. I hope that this message reaches you soon. Please don't stop writing!!! You have a whole office anxiously awaiting the next book. Thank You.

Your books are so incredible. Claire and Jamie are so real. It is as if you knew these people intimately. I am one part Scottish (my mother is of the Fraser clan) and my father is French. It is especially interesting to read of the Fraser clan and to research on the clan tartans, coat of arms etc. as was in your "Outlandish Companion". I admire Claire's unabashed sexuality and bravery. She is my heroine and Jamie; well I could only hope to meet a man like that in my dreams!
Keep up your fantastic writing. I'll be waiting for the next book!

I left Scotland as a baby and 42 years later I am planning to go back in November this year. This will be my first trip back and I can't begin to tell you how excited I am. Why November???? (Brrrrrr!!) My Grandmother turns 100 on the 27th. My friend Tracey put me on to the series by raving about them during our nightly walks and always talked about Jamie!!!! I borrowed the first book from her but then went out and bought the rest. I am still trying to find a copy of Cross-stitch to complete the series. Back to my trip. I hope to visit the places mentioned in the books (with my mother). I asked Mum if we were 'lowlanders' - she replied that we are Islanders (the Isle of Arran) and that the residents of that island had to flee as well.

lilydale, vic australia - Saturday, March 20, 2004 at 05:59:26 (EST)Diana,
After reading Drums of Autumn a few years ago, I purchased Outlander in March for a trip. When I returned, I ran to Books-a-Million to get a copy of Voyager and Dragonfly in Amber. They were out of Fiery Cross. (They had several copiies two weeks or so ago)Is it normal to think about Claire and Jamie during the day when I am at work or otherwise occupied? It is a wonderful series and you have created wonderful characters who really come alive.
The only problem is, I have other work to do and can't read 24 hours a day!
As a Catholic, I also appreciate that particular strand that runs through the series.
Thank you again,

Little Rock, AR Pulaski - Thursday, March 18, 2004 at 22:02:46 (EST)Dear Diana, Just writing to tell how much pleasure I have derived from your books. I work at the library and enjoy recommending your series to readers who ask me for a good book to read, rarely do I have any disappointed takers and most immediately want the next book.
We have several reading groups at the library and while the "older ladies" turned up their noses at all the sex, it was noted that EVERYONE finshed the book, something that rarely happens. The working ladies group is still drooling and I am sure many new copies of all your books have been acquired locally, for everyone it seems wants their own personal copy to have and to hold and to clutch to their bosoms and read whenever the need arises for a Jamie fix.
I (of course, why else would I be here writing this) have my own personal copies and all the books on tape. Recorded books are the very best, the reader is wonderful. Sorry, I had to withdraw the abridged versions, they were just not a good thing and I couldn't stand anyone thinking that was the true story. When someone listens to that they always wonder what all the fuss is about.
Well enough, I hope you get to read this. I know you are a very busy person. We are all eagerly awaiting the next installment. Thank you very much for your lovely books. I love all the details, history and your wonderful full fleshed and well rounded characters.
Too gushy I know but from the heart. Cheers, Lindy

I perfer the Jamie/Claire books and want "a Jamie"!!! at least when he gets rambunctious-which seems to happen a lot!!! Good ol' Jamie!! and Claire for her fortitude!! She really is a Heroine! You are the funniest writer I have had the pleasure to read (not to dicredit that you touch the core of my heart with the love story, or that you widen my understanding of the history in which the books take place.) you are wonderful.
One of my favorite bits is when Jamie is fighting off the bear and Claire hits him with the fish. When I am needing a reason to smile - I think of that scene. When I need to laugh, I read it.
Thank you so much for using your incredible talents and writing these novels. They are so very powerful and so tempting to read over and over again.

I love you Outlander series. It is because of you that I became obsessed with Scotland and everything Celtic.
Ages ago I read a blurb which stated that you were thinking of writing a book featuring Jamie Fraser's parents. Is this true?
If so I am thrilled beyond belief. I would love to know the story of the two people responsible for such a wonderful "character" as Jamie.
Many thanks for any insight you can provide and thank you for providing a getaway from our ordinary lives through your books.
Happy New Year.

It is a Revolutionary War story regarding the southern states including North Carolina. Obviously, some of the non-fictional characters overlap from the "Outlander" series. You may find it to be a good read.
By the way, I am a great fan of your writings and I anxiously await anything you wish to share in the way of a great story.

Pennock, mn - Sunday, January 18, 2004 at 16:50:28 (EST)Dear Diana
"Dragonfly In Amber" is my all-time favorite book. The characters became as real to me as the living people in my life for a couple of years. I was living in a remote place in the mountains at the time, and didn't have much in the way of distractions from the routines of milking cows, farming with horses, chopping wood, carrying water, and the bliss of love and family and the beautiful mountain wilderness homestead(25 years now).
I want to thank you for that wonderful magical contribution to my life. I care very much what happens to Jamie and Claire.
I just read "Lord John and the Private Matter" and found it hard to believe that it was written by the same person. I think it was a nightmare best quickly forgotten, rather than recorded. It was sordid and sickening, and had no redeaming features. It appears that some not so nice thought-form entities may have infiltrated your work. I pray that the rest of your characters may be safe and protected from them.
Please be strong in resisting their influence and upholding Claire and Jamie in love and light.
Your committed fan

I don't know if you'll ever read this, but I wanted to somehow thank you for the wonderful gifts that are Jamie and Claire. No characters have ever touched me as they have. When I finished the series (the first time), I didn't want to read any other books. I couldn't bring myself to leave them. At times I find myself missing them, so I pick up any one of the books, open it up to any random page and dive right back into their saga. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Turku, SF Finland - Saturday, January 10, 2004 at 05:46:58 (EST)Thank you for some wonderful reading I really do enjoy the stories and live the life of each of your characters myself. What an interesting time the 1700's were. I just recived the book "Lord John and the Private Matter" and equally look forward to reading this. Hopefully your next book on Claire & James is not to far away. Currently I have found the book "The Outlandish Companion and have been delighted with all that it contains, you certainly have put in lots of work and research into that production, WELL DONE. It cleared up a lot of things that I didn't understand and more besides, thank you. I have just found out that my great, great, great, great, great greatgrandfather was John Lambert who was a Parlimentary Soldier and Cromwellian Major - General 1619 - 1684. There is a book written by David Farr, but that Irish and Welsh history, but nevertheless also as interesting. Please keep your books coming as I can't get enough of them Diana.
Thank you from a great fan Frances. Jan 2004.

Mšnchengladbach, Germany - Monday, December 29, 2003 at 12:04:01 (EST)Hello Diana,
I am so excited about your books. I have re read Outlander at least 3 times and am in the midst of Drangonfly in Amber. Several years ago, after the death of my mother, I found a job at a local school and I was an assistant teacher. Anyway, the teacher that I was working with was awesome and she had taken me home one evening after class. On the way, she had this tape in her tape deck and it was telling a story. Having never heard a book on tape before, I was intrigued to say the least. I listened for a bit and I was hooked and when I asked her what she was listening to, she showed me the case the tapes went in and I went out that next afternoon and bought the book.
It just amazes me that Jamie and Claire are fictional. The beautiful and tragic way that you describe them and their love and the lives is simply put, outstanding! I feel like I have been transported to Jamie with Claire through that standing stone and it just opens a whole new portal for me every time I read one of your books!
Thank you for sharing the amazing depth of your soul and imagination with all of us. I tell everyone I come across, especially in my favorite used book store, to pick up your books, it is definately worth the time to read. I can get through one of your books in about 3 days when I can just read and have no other matters to attend. I look forward to your next adventure!
God bless!

Jamie and Claire, Brianna and Roger are part of my life now. I have them all in paper back but am starting to get them in hard cover. All I can say is Thanks, Diana, keep on writing and I'll keep on reading. I look forward to hearing more about my favorite characters. I didn't know about the books on Lord John and they are next on my list now that I do. Thanks again.

Newport, NC USA - Sunday, December 07, 2003 at 21:17:01 (EST)Dear Diana,
Thank you for the gift of many, many hours of reading your
books. (I just finished Drums of Autumn.) After reading a
particularly good book, I often wish I could give others the
same type of gift that the author gave me: delightful hours
of reading and living in another place and knowing other
people. The authors that come to mind now are Margaret
Mitchell (Gone With the Wind), J. R. R. Tolkien (Lord of the
Rings and The Hobbit), and Lloyd C. Douglas (The Big
Fisherman). I've just added you to that category.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Huntington Beach, CA USA - Monday, December 01, 2003 at 17:50:31 (EST)A friend gave me your books to read and I have fallen in love with Jamie and Claire. It's been a little spooky how your Jamie reminds me so much of my husband Jamie...my husband is 6'4' very strong (dark hair though),he's very seasick, his middle name is Anselm (the same as the priest that helped Jamie) when he signs his name to me ,he just puts the letter "J" as I put the letter "C" as they did before leaving through the stones (carving thier initails on thier thumbs) the more I read the more it gives me chills...Also there were some places in France that are connected to our family...I can go on and on it's just really spooky but a good feeling, I seem to want to know more and more about Jamie because he's so much like my Jamie... keep up the amazing work and i look forward to more books from you

The search was on, and one day I was in a used book store, and laying on top of a shelf of books, plainly for me to find, was a hard cover copy of Outlander. For me it was the beginning of treasured reading ahead. I am hooked, and will never get rid of the copies I have since collected. I will save them for my daughters to read. Thank you Diana, for sharing your gift of writing! I can't say enough about how I appreciate the pages I have read.

Hamminkeln, NRW Germany - Sunday, November 09, 2003 at 09:22:45 (EST)I started to read the Outlander series about 5 years ago. They were recommeded by a friend. Since that time, I have DEVOURED the books. I've read them all about four times, listened to the audio tapes and recommeded the books countless times to friends. I actually made my bedt friend (whom is a guy) read them. It is now one of our favorite things to do- read them and talk about Jamie and Claire and the gang. I will say that this series has meant a lot to me. When I finished reading Drums in Autumn (this was before Fiery Cross was released), I felt as though my best friends had died. There wasn't anymore story for me to read until the next book was released. I adore the characters and love the adventure. I only hope that I can find a love as strong and true as Jaimie and Claire.
As for Lord John Grey- I disagree with the people who didn't like it. I thought it was fun. I love Lord John- I think he is a very dynamic character and enjoy him. I enjoyed the book and the adventures of it!
Thanks Diana for so many years of continuous enjoyment. Here's to the future of The Frasers!!!

Livingston, TX USA - Thursday, November 06, 2003 at 22:57:56 (EST)I have read many series before, but none have struck me and stayed me like the Outlander series. As I explained to Diana, I and my sister are going to Scotland in May 2004 and I plan to visit as much as I possibly can in order to follow Claire and Jamie's trail. I know that some of the areas are fictitious, but there is so much history in the series that I can follow Scotland's history by following the story line. I have asked Diana where things are so that I can see them for myself.
I also have compared many historical areas,ie Colonial Williamsburg, to compare the sites with the explanations in the book series. The more I hear of life back then, the more I wish that I could live it. The experience would be enlightening. Life today is so fastpaced that it would be a breath of fresh air to go back in time.
I can't wait to read on in the series, to live history through Claire and Jamie, and to see what sort of experiences develop. It will be fun to see how Diana entertwines American history with the story line.
It will also be fun to read the prequels. Diana made my day when she said that there are 6 more books coming, 3 prequels and 3 of the series. It will be a sad day when the series is over.
Sincerely,
One of Diana's biggest fans, Lynn Mailhot

Lewiston, Me US - Thursday, November 06, 2003 at 19:23:12 (EST)Having put aside fictional reading for a number of years, due to academic studies, marriage, child bearing, etc, I recently started to "read" again.
My sister, who is an avid reader, strongly recommended reading Outlander. While at first I did not believe that reading about time travel would be of interest to me, I soon found I could not put the book down. That was 2 weeks ago...I have just completed Dragonfly in Amber and Voyager and am starting Drums of Autumn....I just can't get enough!!
Diana's ability to weave history, romance, mystery, drama and wit have kept me captivated. I am SOOOOOO hooked. I am also comforted knowing that it seems that I am not the only obsessed reader. Diana's dedicated followers reveal her success as a storyteller.
Congratulations Diana.....look forward to reading more of your works!

Toronto, Canada - Tuesday, November 04, 2003 at 10:12:35 (EST)Hi, from the disclaimer above Diana may not see my e-mail, though who ever does....I would love to know when Diana is going to do a book tour in New Zealand again. I know she came down here in 1998/1999 and unfortunately I heard about it after she came. So if anyone knows what her world wide tour diary is like please let me know.
Anyway if Diana does see this I just want to say you are awesome. I think it is wonderful how you post up to date info on websites, up dating everyone how you are going with your writing, what your up to and just general chatting.
A few years ago my husband sent a letter to you asking for your autograph (as he knew I was a huge fan) so when I received about half a dozen signed autograph stickers to put into my 'Jamie and Claire' books I was blowen away. He hadn't told me that he sent you a letter. I would like to say a huge thanks for your autograph, it was something you didn't have to do but you took the time and I appreciate it.
Oh yeah and Jamie and Claire are pretty cool too! Fantastic stories, you have an imagination to envy...so please come back and visit New Zealand we would really love to have you.
I can't wait for the next book to come out and have been waiting in agony for, well it feels like forever. I went out and bought the Fiery Cross the day it came out and read it so dam quick and now it feels like a very long wait till next year when the next book is due.
Thanks for your time...keep up the writing

It's the most beautiful writing I've ever read, and I want to thank Diana for giving me a wonderful escape from life and its everyday stresses. When I was seventeen, my mother would re read Outlander over and over...my sister and I would see her, and say "You're reading that again???"
Now, I have apologized to her...She just told me her mother introduced these books to her..so now it's almost a tradition... I will definitely pass this on to my daughter once she's old enough...Thank You...

Colorado Springs, CO USA - Thursday, October 16, 2003 at 18:34:18 (EDT)Loved the books from the first. Read Outlander the year it was published, and fell in love with Jamie (as most of us have) and also with Claire. Decided then to name my yet unborn children after them! In 2001 had a son, blue eyed and strawberry blonde.. his name.. James.. his nickname of course.. Jamie. If he had been female, it was to be Claire.
Jamie is also half english/half scottish in origins. My family traces back to the Scott clan, and the Buccleuch's. My husbands family traces back to Bolton Castle in England.

Lord John and the Private Matter was certainly a new low for avid readers and I fear you will lose many of your followers. One winter in FL I read 4 of your books and loved every one of them so much that after arriving home and attending a ladies club meeting where I was astounded to find I was the program gave a comprehensive report on all 4 books...so enthuiastic were those ladies that they were writing down the names of the books so they could enjoy them to the fullest. Life is topo full of the sordid side of life; we don't need such a vivid picture.

I do think you concentrated too much on the sexual activities of the characters. Is there a book after The Fiery Cross? Did Steve Bonnet die? I hope he died a horrible death. What about Ian? What is his story? You cannot leave the story there. Is The Outlandish Companion a part of this series?

Aiken, SC USA - Saturday, October 11, 2003 at 21:39:42 (EDT)Dear Diana G.-I don't ever look up web sites/leave messages to authors of books I adore but I feel I must in this case!!A few years ago while visiting my mom I picked "The Outlander" which she had checked out of the public library. I absently started reading it and I WAS HOOKED !!Of course I read through them all and at times I found I was utterly lost in the story and could not tear myself away-it was like leaving this "parallel universe".As crazy as this sounds I think I fell in love with Jamie.I don't want to see a movie made because I can't imagine really putting faces on these beloved people-your mind's eye is always better!Anyway,I'm half-way through "The Fiery Cross" and I'm actually anxious that Jamie will be killed!I know you can't keep writing about them endlessly(after all,Jamie and Claire are in their forties now!)I don't want it to end!!! All my praises to these wonderful books-I treasure each of them. The characters have become people I care about and they are so real to me.(These are not the rantings of a crazy woman!!)Thank you for the pleasure of a wonderful,exciting,emotion-filled place for me to go.

MŠnnedorf, ZH Switzerland - Friday, October 10, 2003 at 08:45:23 (EDT)Yes, yes yes to everything you say about the "Outlander" series (Crosstitch for me). The most compelling and wonderfully entertaining books I have ever read, and Jamie and Claire are indeed part of my psyche. So I can't believe I'm saying this - but when I heard there were going to be AT LEAST another two books in the series - I just sighed with disappointment. I know that a writer as hugely successful as Diana has a mandate to write as many books as she wants, with more and more pages in each! And I know that the story must change character after the thrilling, "grab you by the seat of your pants" ride of the first novel. But, after expecting just ONE more book and all will be made clear - it really hit me when Diana said "you can't fit the American Revolution into one novel". I know this is selfish, but I don't want to read two novels about the American Revolution! I don't mind it as a wonderful backdrop (I've learned so much about Scotland!), but I don't want it to overshadow the story of Jamie, Claire, Roger and Brianna, Lord John and all those other wonderful characters. To use a sporting term - I feel as if the goal posts keep moving! All those questions I've been waiting to have answered since the ghost appears at the beginning of the FIRST novel! I don't mind reading a huge book - if I know that the huge mysteries will get cleared up by the last page. But it's very hard to accept that it could be ten years or more before we find out who is the father of Brianna's baby and read that last tear jerking scene. And find out about that ghost!!!
Forgive me for "stomping my feet" like an impatient, spoilt child. I feel better know, and I will try to wait patiently for the rest of the best story I have ever read!

Pardon me but you write like a man and that I think is good. I usually shy away from Lady writers. Here you have taken a very difficult theme and handled it in the best way possible. I plan to find more of your volumes. I very much enjoyed this book.

Hilltop Lakes, Tx USA - Friday, October 03, 2003 at 12:15:16 (EDT)I have never - before now - reread a book! I was into the first few pages of the 5th book -- I left it so long because each book is so emotionally draining that it takes some time for me to get up enough nerve to continue -- But as I started to read, I realized that I had forgotten some of the details and relationships. I had two choices, read the companion or go for broke and begin again. So after 3 days I have finished book number one and vow to continue straight through. Of course there are minor inconveniences such and work... With luck I should be just about ready in time for the next book to be published.

Townsville, Qld Australia - Monday, September 29, 2003 at 19:59:11 (EDT)hi just want to say thank you for transforming my world with jamie and claire. i first picked up the books last year and couldn't put them down. i am awaiting the next book to come out. I have a friend up in Scotland who has never read a book for years. she had a nervous breakdown three years ago and i sent the books up to her as i finished each one. My friend Joan really enjoyed them. she lived and breathed jamie and claire. this has helped get her back on the road to recovery and like me she is awaiting the next epic journey of jamie and claire.
when i have visited my friend joan in scotland i can just imagine how claire must have felt when she was transported back all those years. time stands still in scotland and the scenery now in the glens are just like all those hundreds of years back when true scottish men wore the tartan kilt with pride and without fear. after reading the books i became interested in the history of scotland and what the english did to the scotland and its people.
i truly believe that diana gabaldon is to be applauded for the way she has brought history and the facts up to date.
thankyou.

HEYWOOD, ENGLAND - Saturday, September 27, 2003 at 15:09:18 (EDT)Many many thanks for the umpteen hours of enjoyment and naughty fantasy created by the Cross Stitch series. I've probably read the books at least 4 times each and have read my favourite bits to the point that I could probably recite them if my life depended on it! Since extolling the numerous vitues of this series, I've inadvertantly started a major Jamie fan club at work and the poor Scottish male nurse has lost count of the number of times he's had to say 'Sassenach' to swooning women!( No- he looks nothing like Jamie but he's certainly got the accent!)
I love your sense of humour and compassion that shines through in your writing and I I will certainly be buying any future books that you write. Once again, many thanks. Love Lara xxxx

Poole, Dorset UK - Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at 13:50:41 (EDT)I was introduced to the fascinating stories of Claire and Jamie this past year while I was in nursing school. (It was my stress relief.) I kept wishing that I could actually jump right into the stories and have Jamie all to myself. A friend and I kept saying, "if only he really existed..." our husbands think we are crazy. I read all four books so I hope there are more on the way! I have no desire to read anything other than the adventures Jamie and Claire. (I just love reading about Jamie.) Anyway, thanks for writing these wonderful stories and please don't stop writing about Jamie!

Came back to it, just to say: Think about all the hundreds, no, thousands of readers like me who do not take the time to praise this fantastic author and her works. WoW!!!! The movie industry would do well to forget the mini series and make a sequence of motion pictures like "The Godfather", etc. They certainly would have an audience!!!!!!! And what a wonderful story to come to life in full color on a large theater screen! Bravo, Diana. One of the best stories I have read in years, have always been a avid reader, and am 48 years old.

Morne ˆ l'Eau, guadeloupe/France - Tuesday, August 26, 2003 at 11:47:23 (EDT)Dear Ms. Gabaldon:
Your Outlander series has rekindled my love for reading. I have been reading for as long as I can remember and was always very quick to answer when someone asked me who my favorite author was and what my favourite book was. However, since my mother-in-law first introduced me to Jamie and Claire, my tongue is even quicker to respond that my favourite author is you and my favorite books are the Outlander series. I cannot sleep at night, for I do not want to put down the books. THEY ARE AMAZING!!!!!!!! I hope someday you will be able to autograph my withering pages of Outlander!!!!(I'll be reading this series over and over again, and I NEVER read a book more than once.) I find myself having to skip a couple of pages ahead every now and then, because I must know what will happen before I get there, then once satisfied, I will continue on reading.
Keep up the amazing work. My great-grandchildren will know the wonderful words and works of art of one Diana Gabaldon!
Yours gratefully,

I can't wait to find out what endevors Jamie & Claire, not to mention Brianna, Roger & Jemmy, must face next. I've been re-reading your book searies, and I quite simply love every book, but Outlander is truley my favorite. I really think Jamie is a one of a kind gentleman, Claire is very fortunate for this, and I really believe that you'd never find one quite like him in real life, that's really depressing once you think about it. My best friend and I read your books and discuss them, we both have read them all. I wish you luck in your writing career, and I hope your next book(s) are as well written and appriciated as the rest.

Having a Scottish heritage and an interest in writing myself (my family is from some branch of the McLean clan... my mother is a writer, so far unpublished) these books have risen toward the top of my list of favorites. As I am preparing to embark on my collegiate journey, I may request some information, either on your books or on writing in general, for use in my Honors College Literature class. Rohnert Park, CA USA - Friday, August 01, 2003 at 18:12:18 (EDT)I love your books, just like everyone else I have met! My friend Emily bought me Outlander as a graduation prestent, telling me I'd better be careful, or I might fall IN LOVE with Jamie Fraser. (I thought she was crazy, till I read the book, over and over again!!) As soon as I reached the last chater I ran to the bookstore and bought Drangonfly in Amber. My mom started Outlander because she saw me laughing out loud and crying, and all the other emotions that go with these books. I have forced people to read Outlander and they come BEGGING for the next in the series. I can say that i have read them all (except Firey Cross, but give me time!!) at least 8 times. This series has gotten me through break ups with boyfriends, fiancees, and a separation with my husband... we did get back together and his frist present was Outlandish Companion. : ) (he knew what to buy to get back in the house, haha!!)
I dont know how to express any better that i just LOVE this series, and I hope it never ends!!!! Thank you so much for Jamie, Claire, Brianna, Roger, Frank, Jemmy (reminds me of my own baby!) and everyone else from Dougal and Donas, to Murtagh and CoCo (the coconut) I have really enjoyed the laughs and cries.... I dont know what I would do if I didnt have my favorite books to help me through a day!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR CREATIONS!!!!

How can you end such a wonderful story with the deaths of Jamie and Claire in 1766 when the series just begins to form a clan with Briana and Roger and their son. I keep thinking there was a mistake with the deaths by fire.
Please take up the story again.
I have played these cd's three times and am beginning to speak with a scottish brogue.
Please continue this series.

After I had had half a year of preparations for my final state exam, I really didn't feel like reading anymore, but those books were so fantastic and captivating that I rediscovered joy in reading. I haven't done anything else for the last couple of weeks.
Thank you so much!

That was less than a year ago, and i am on The Fiery Cross now. These books have changed my life. They are kind of depressing though; i get thinking about my future (i'm 17) and realize that unless i'm willing to go back in time, i'm never going to find a perfect man like Jamie. Becaue I was so busy getting all of my books signed, I didnt have time to explain to you that I invented this game and publish/distribute it to retailers. Development of this game began with an idea to develop something to help writers with writer's block, even though I wasnt a writer at the time. Did you have a chance to play the game? Are there any comments about the game that you'd like to share with me? I'd appreciate hearing your views on it, since it is my "baby" out there in retail-land. Hope all is well. There is too much joy and excited thoughts in my head to express what the Outlander series has meant to me. I was not a reader before these books were introduced into my life. I am a dreamer already, that is true. But this family of people and friends that you have brought into my life are so rich in love and culture that it is such a shame to know that these books are only fiction. Thank you, Diana Gabaldon. I am totally in love with Jamie and Clair. And NO THERE WILL NEVER BE ANY BOOKS LIKE THESE!!!! They are so much a part of my life now, I feel I really know them. Diana is a genius! I can't wait to read her book about John Grey.
I know the series has to end at one point or another, and that scares me. I love Jamie and Clair so much that I cannot bear it if Diana "kills" them off in front of me. Please Please Please let her end it with the two of them sitting on the porch together and peaceful at last. God knows they deserve it!!!! Preetz, Germany - Wednesday, June 25, 2003 at 12:45:30 (EDT)Well, the only thing that comes to the mind of this viking girl are all the years (poorly) spend without the raging love of Jamie and Claire to warm them up! Outlander made me skip TWO days from High School and I might add that sleep was quite unfamiliar to me during those days too.. But what can you do when something more powerful than your own self lures you and doesn't let you go?? on the way of my Diana Gabaldon obsession was the fact that only the Outlander had been translated into Finnish but I didn't let that hinder things for long. Instead I decided to read those in English rather then wait for some five years.
So Diana, if you ever happen to read this message be glad to know that it wasn't just my imagination that got some fuel but also my language skills!!
With deep gratitude, Vilja

Finland - Saturday, June 21, 2003 at 18:08:10 (EDT)Your books are totally entertaining. I am a 75 year old lady and have already read Kant, Kafka and The Brothers Karamazov. I was born and spent a big portion of my growing-up time in Puerto Rico. The rest was spent in western North Carolina--and New Mexico. I first stepped on New Mexican soil in l933, in Belen, and was graduated from UNM in l945. Forty years ago, my husband went to ASU to teach, and brought his family with him.
While all of these details may seem seen unnecessary in a fan letter, they have been mentioned in order to establish some rapport. After all, cuantas fanaticas saben que el apellido de su mama es abreviacion de C.(Cabeza)de Baca,el explorador famoso. Siempre, su segura servidora.

Miami, FL USA - Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at 19:47:07 (EDT)Hi this is Ana,
I am actually writing a novel ( or whatever it turns out to be) and I read in the outlandish compendium that you would always write any scenes, which you would then stick to one another if they fit.
I tried that way, and it really got me going on, because I was stucked in the middle of the story. What do you do, if you have to write an important scene, but you'd rather write about anything funny that happenden to your characters BUT YOU HAVE TO FINISH FIRST THAT OTHER SCENE ?
Sometimes I want to rush forward, to come to the "best part" of the story, what if there is some stuff I don't want to bother with, but which is important for the plot?
Shall I leave it out or shall I anyway write it (even if my fingers bleed).
I always find spoilers, how I hate that, but I love to read your new book - I wish this Jamie-Claire-Thing would never end.
Jamie inspired me to the guy I'm writing about, but he is rather small, blonde and lives in the 13th century...
You said you wrote the first book to get practice - I wish all the books that were wrote for practice would be that good. OUTLANDER is my favourite one, by the way, and I liked voyager too, of course, but I got sea-sick *g*
I'm awaiting your next books!!!! God bless.Ana

I love the way your books allow one to learn something about different time periods, and enjoy doing so at the same time! Wish you wrote books for young adults as well! Keep 'em comin'!

Got the book, caring friend brings me Outlander AND Dragonfly in Amber *I know you, you are a speed reader, you will swallow this up and start the next one soon*
March 23, 2003- Hmmmmm, I have a statistics midterm on Wednesday... Well no harm in starting the book, he has allowed a formula "cheat sheet"
April 15 - Finished the series through The Fiery Cross plus The Outlandish Companion-
Had to, have a major exam, major paper presentation, major statistics final (UGH), and then there is work and, oh yes, cooking and cleaning...details.
MMMMMMMMM no regrets! I am rereading Outlander favorite parts such as the wedding night (yummy), Jamie telling Claire the real reason why he married her, and so many more.
Oh, yeah, and getting a bit more sleep! Thank you Diana for such well written books!

I came online to find out the exact order in which to read the books and saw an opportunity for a message to be sent to you.
First and foremost, THANK YOU SO MUCH for writing such EXCELLENT BOOKS. I have three different circles of friends who are all reading the entire series of books about Jamie and Claire and we all can't get enough!!!
I haven't been able to track down 'Through the Stones' yet but will keep looking as will all my friends.
Diana I just want you to know that I NEVER READ BOOKS and I have read Cross Stitch and have just started Dragonfly in Amber and brought the whole series right up to The Fiery Cross, except of course the Through the Stones book.
Just one more thing Diana, I would so like to see a picture of Jamie and Claire that has come from a readers imagination obiviously someone with a hand for art or maybe even yourself. Jamie sounds like a MAJOR HUNK!!!!!
Thanks heaps Diana

Auckland, New Zealand - Friday, April 18, 2003 at 23:14:22 (EDT)I'm a fairly recent fan in that I was given a copy of Outlander to read in December by a colleague at work. I just finished The Fiery Cross last night. I've read historical romances most of my life and can tell you that you are truly gifted. In your books, I'm transported to Scotland, the Carribean and the Carolinas instantly. I have a vision of Jamie, not as conventionaly handsome, but rugged with many scars. However, the heart and soul of a uniquely good and honest man shines through and makes him not only handsome, but desirable and completely trustworthy. But make no mistake, our Jamie is never one to be taken for granted. He is truly a man's man in the very best way.
Thank you Diana for your imagination and your heart. Please don't stop writing. I look forward to reading your books when they are about Jemmy and his wife and children!

Grapevine, TX USA - Friday, April 11, 2003 at 17:36:28 (EDT)Dear Ms. Gabaldon:
I saw you interviewed on our local television station
CKCO-CTV - Kitchener, Ontario. You were promoting your
book "The Fiery Cross"
I went to our local library with this information and the
librarian quickly set me on the right track and said I should
read them in order and she said I was lucky because "Outlander"
was in the library. She said people generally have to go on
a waiting list. I loved reading every word of every book.
I have my daughter, future daughter-in-law and best
friend reading the series. Can't wait until the next one comes
out.
On the same television network they have a librarian who comes
on a noonhour show and tells about other interesting books.
She mentioned the book "Into the Wilderness" by Sara Donati.
I have just finished reading this book and plan to get the next
book.
I was so impressed that she mentioned Jamie & Claire on
one page in the book. Also, how you gave such a fine review
of her book.
I have enjoyed all of these books. The city of Brantford is
only a few miles from a very large Six Nations Reservation.
The home of Pauline Johnson is located there.
Keep up the good work.

Brantford, ON Canada - Tuesday, April 08, 2003 at 09:56:20 (EDT)Dear Dr. Diana:
I just want to thank you for sharing your unique imagination with us through these marvelous books. My sister, Cara, is a nurse and has two daughters, Brittany and Jamie (all of this is pre-Outlander). Therefore, the series immediately attracted her. She kept raving to me about them, but at the time I didn't feel I had the time and was not really interested. However, being of Scotch, Irish, French and Cherokee heritage, they did have some appeal to me.
Well, I retired recently and finally picked them up,and began "wading" through them. What a plesant surpirse!! I didn't find I was "wading", but floating in pure bliss!!! I read all five books in two months. I found I simply could not put them down. One of the best things about them, I found to be your deliciously wicked sense of humor. Thank you for such enjoyment.

Ingersoll, ON Canada - Sunday, April 06, 2003 at 09:35:33 (EDT)I have been an avid Diana Gabaldon Reader, & fan since I was introduced to her works about 12-13yrs ago, I was only 19 at the time. I immediatly devoured Outlander(and I mean devoured, I literally could not put it down, stayed in my room locked up for at least two days) :) I have since been lost in Scotland, and in Jamie & Claire's World ever since! I just wanted to say that the Outlander series is my absolute favorite books!! I love the detail, and since I used to do Reniassance re-enactments, I connected with it even more. I no longer do theater, but my love of Scotland, and of Diana' works will stay with me my whole life. Thankyou Diana for writing books that have moved the hearts of soo many!
Forever a fan,

Melbourne, VIC Australia - Saturday, April 05, 2003 at 19:06:19 (EST)Diana, I was a flight attendant when I first discovered your books. (I recently left that line of work, as I was flying between New York and Washington several times a day - !!!) I was walking through an airport bookstore between flights, and caught sight of the tartan on the cover of a paperback. Being a certified Celtophile, I grabbed it up and devoured it in short order. Imagine my shock and horror when I discovered that I had just read one of a series... OUT OF ORDER!!! (It was "Drums of Autumn" that had caught my eye.) I promptly went out and purchased "Outlander" and read the rest in proper order, of course re-reading "Drums" when I came to it, as your writing is too delicious to ever be considered a leftover! I literally wept when each book was over... not only because of the wonderful story line, but because the book had ended! I wanted each one to just go on and on forever. Through the years, I have kept running into folks who were carrying your books on the plane, and had many interesting conversations with people that stemmed from our common interest in your writing. It's wonderful what can happen because of a good book (or five)!! In any case, I am trying to make "Fiery Cross" last and last, reading only a little at a time... it's wonderful! My lovely Scottish mannie and I just got married on September 28. He's a bagpiper, and was in full regalia - gorgeous! I wore a tartan sash to match... if you'd like to see a picture of us, go to our wedding website at: www.thistlebright.com Thanks so much for bringing Jamie and Claire to our lives (Teddy loves your books as much as I do!)... keep up the good work! Any hope of a movie in the works? Sincerely, Heide (aka Elysia Fionn)

12 years ago I began a story to my daughter, Jesse's, second grade class. It began as a story of Unicorns to keep the class busy for the teacher. Two years ago I began reading your books. To my own surprise I began to change the story I told those young children years ago. I have changed the story to make up my own mythology and characters. I have began to draw them and make up characteristics for them. Names and the such. Thank you for the stories of Jamie. Wonderful and maybe someday you can read mine. Good Luck and all I can say is, "Keep writing they are wonderful stories"

Des Moines, IA Polk - Tuesday, March 18, 2003 at 16:12:01 (EST)I hope Diana eventually receives this message. I have a 'pet peeve' which is the way great books are 'butchered' when 'turned over' to movie producers/directors. I know this is an entirely 'different format', however, I was wondering just how much 'say' an author has when it comes to 'adapting a book to movie'. I (being an avid reader) rarely is pleased with what happens to books. Maybe, I just need to realize it just becomes very different....maybe not watching the movie 'adaption'....I don't know how authors cope with the 'butchering'....I don't feel I will be watching a mini series or otherwise of Outlander....I don't believe (from past experience) that it could ever 'meet' the novel. I guess there are 'movie goers' and 'bookworms'....'never the 'twain shall meet!' .
Look forward to 'follow up' to these comments.
Thank you,
Sincerely,

Well I got tired of hearing about your books from my wife, our daughters, mother-in-law and other females of the family. I don't read very much but I decided to purchase the Outlander Audio set. What can I say except that I was 'hooked'. Although the book was the 'abridged' version I understood what the women were talking about. You characters are 'alive'. You books (I own all of the audio ones) have motivated me to walk and listen. I now walk 5 days and week (3 miles each time) and treasure the time to escape into your books.
I thank you for your 'gift' Diana and will be thinking of you as we drive through your home town on our way to Long Beach Ca.

I have always been facinated with the henges of the world and other unexplained phenomena. To have a story built completely around the stones is so incredibly facinating. I was sorry to hear that ABC cancelled the mini-series for Outlander. I have, however, written to the BBC in England and Scotland hoping that they will take on the project. They did write back to me saying that they had many such requests, and would get back to me when they could. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
You have a great gift for writing. The characters are unforettable, and Jamie will forever be my favorite fictional hero. Keep writing. I'm awaiting your sixth and last novel in the series, or did I read that you were going to write a prequel about Jamie's parents?

I was then upset with myself for waiting so long. I met Diana in the lobby of a small hotel in Glasgow Scotland when the "Romantic Times" took a trip in '97. I belive I overwhelmed her a bit. I came rushing over and in 1 breath announced my undying loyality to her and Jamie [g]. As anyone whose ever met her knows shes a bit shy and I guess standing within her comfort zone did not help because she just looked and me and smiled, shook my hand and said "Thats nice". Well, so much for first impressions :), I don't think I made a very good one. I too have a gift bag where I have the first 3 of the books in paperback ready to "turn people on" I have yet had anyone not like them.

Dundee, Scotland - Saturday, December 14, 2002 at 10:33:19 (EST)Hi Diana! I love your books! I have a couple of questions about the Scottish ghost (Jamie) at the beginning of Outlander: 1) Did Frank ever realize who the ghost was (i.e., that he HAS seen Jamie), despite his mentioning in his confessional letter that Roger recites in Drums that he wonders what Jamie looked like? and 2) the running-stag broch that the ghost is wearing--is it the same one that McRannoch is wearing with his wolf-skins when Claire rescues Jamie from Wentworth? If so, when did Jamie get it from McRannoch?

Santa Cruz, CA USA - Saturday, December 14, 2002 at 02:22:07 (EST)Hi Diana, I just wanted to tell you how much I have enjoyed the Outlander series. You have spoiled other books, because I have come to expect the attention to detail, well developed characters, realistic dialogue and of course great story. No other books keep me laughing and crying even after 4-5 reads. Thank you for these wonderful books and please never stop writing! I also enjoyed the companion just to get a glimpse inside your head-great sense of humor!

Challis, ID USA - Wednesday, December 04, 2002 at 14:35:05 (EST) I forgot to ask you a question yesterday on my message! In the first book when Claire & Frank come to Scotland and they are staying in the Bed & Breakfast, Frank sees Jamie standing outside in the rain looking up at Claire but there is no mention of it from Jamie in any of the books, Why? Was he there in Spirit because she had already been in the past or was he just watching her as she had haunted him after she went back? Thanks. Heather Poston

I read your defense of Bree re: her being stupid, and all I can say is, people don't always pay attention to the facts. I have read all of your novels except Fiery Cross and am glad to have a chance to tell you that your writing is outstanding. I am currently reading the Outlandish Companion which is very interesting. Thanks for your books and keep up the good work. Beverly

I just wanted to let you know that I absolutely love your Outlander Series. I have just started to read Drums of Autumn. I am not a huge reader of these kind of books (with a lot of history involved), but Jamie and Claire are amazing characters. I can't wait to get to The Fiery Cross to see how it finishes (unless you are writing any more in the series after that).

Mississauga, ON Canada - Friday, October 25, 2002 at 18:32:49 (EDT)Diana,
I was a flight attendant when I first discovered your books. (It was "Drums of Autumn" that had caught my eye.)
I promptly went out and purchased "Outlander" and read the rest in proper order, of course re-reading "Drums" when I came to it, as your writing is too delicious to ever be considered a leftover!
I wore a tartan sash to match... if you'd like to see a picture of us, go to our wedding website at:
www.thistlebright.com
Thanks so much for bringing Jamie and Claire to our lives (Teddy loves your books as much as I do!)... keep up the good work! Any hope of a movie in the works?
Sincerely,
Heide (aka Elysia Fionn)

Sheboygan, WI 53081 - Saturday, October 19, 2002 at 12:48:00 (EDT) Diana, You've ruined me...I USED to be a avid reader...3 to 4 novels a month...However, since I've read your books (from "Outlander to Cross"), including listening to the unabridged audio tapes) I haven't been able to read any other books from any other authors! Now I can ONLY read and re-read ~ hope you come out with the next one soon and PLEASE never get tired of writing about Jamie and Claire! I couldn't stand to read an article from you saying that a particular book was the very last one.
Figure something out to keep writing about them forever ~ please!! And just to let you know in case you think from my comments that I just don't have a life or anything else to do...I'm in my 40's with a professional career, married 23+ years to the same great guy and have a passionate hobby of saving stray doggies and finding them homes, (which is almost a full time job in itself)!

Urbach, EU Germany - Saturday, September 28, 2002 at 10:10:08 (EDT) I attempted to contact ABC about the possibility of an Outlander Mini-Series as was suggested at D. Gabaldon's website, but was not able to do so. They don't have an email address listed and I really searched for one. Was the "Outlander" mini-series ever produced or did it end up on the cutting room floor?
I just discovered "The Outlander" at the library a few days ago. I am half way through the story and am loving it! I recently discovered that I am part Scotish (Macduff clan)which is why I picked up the book in the first place.

Straelen, Germany - Wednesday, September 25, 2002 at 16:31:52 (EDT)Dear Mrs Gabaldon!
I am sure you heard it a hundred times, but was I happy to see another book coming about Jamie and Claire and their whole family!
The first book, my girlfriend send it for me, from germany. When I started to read, I could not stop! And my poor husband was not aloud to talk to me for about 4 weeks. That how long it took me to read all the books. Because after I was done with the first one, I went right away and got the other books. Now as I am reading the new book, I enjoy to see all the characters back, like Marsali, Fergus, Briannna and Roger. It is like coming home and I am not reading fast because of fear to end it to soon.
Again, I am sure you heard it many times but thank you for giving live to a wonderful series of books.

Madrid, Spain - Monday, September 23, 2002 at 04:48:30 (EDT)A friend gave me the first 3 books, and now I could not live without them. I have just finished Drums of Autumn, which I was reading whilst in Scotland, and I could not put the book down. They definitely are the best books I have ever read in my life and could not imagine not knowing about Jamie and Claire, I was hooked from the first sentence, I just had to make sure that everything turned out okay.
Having just found your website whilst trying to find the next book in the saga, I just had to comment about how amazing I thought the books were. I intend to move to Scotland and can't wait to relive the saga over again and again with my children. Dont ever stop writing and I wont stop reading

London, England - Sunday, September 22, 2002 at 15:23:48 (EDT)!Hola!
traducida.
Gracias Diana Gabaldon, con tu obra has llegado a los
corazones de miles de personas en el mundo.
Con todo mi afecto, recibe un saludo desde Colombia.

Vancouver, Canada - Thursday, September 19, 2002 at 01:54:12 (EDT)Dear Diana....How very thrilled I would be if I knew that you would truly ever lay eyes on this message....I can't possibly imagine how many others might have said these same things to you countless times. But original or trite, I would like to add my words of praise to theirs....your stories and your characters have claimed forever a place in my heart and soul... Through your stories I have been "in love" with Jamie as much as Claire has been, felt his love and passion for her through a man's eyes. I have been Claire, shared her happiness, her sorrows, fears, pain, and so many other emotions..Only once in a while your stories are so wonderfully vivid with deep emotion that I find myself pulling back and listening and watching as a fly on the wall might instead of actually seeing through Claire's or Jamie's eyes.
I remember how I felt after I first read Outlander. I swear I thought that I had to be your biggest fan and that you wrote that book just for me! But doesn't everyone who loves your work feel that way?! I've read them all now...many, many, many times...
There are so many, many more things I'd like to say........
I wish you all the happiness you could ever want...and Thank You from the bottom of MY Heart for writing these stories that none of us who love your work will ever forget. Thank you for making Jamie and Claire Real where they can LIVE and be a part of US Always.
You are Truly a Born Storyteller. I'm so glad.
I am waiting so very impatiently for the next fantasy to reveal itself....Please take all the time that you need to get it just right but please HURRY!
Sincerly,
"One" of Your Biggest Fans

Westwood, NJ USA - Tuesday, August 27, 2002 at 23:21:06 (EDT)Hi Diana,
I have only recently been introduced to your books (February 2002)and I'm actually glad it wasn't sooner. I'm afraid I have become obsessed with them and Jamie and Claire and if I had found them sooner, I would not have been able to finish college or much of anything else. And it was really nice not to have to wait on the next book to continue the story. Now, waiting for the next book after The Fiery Cross is very difficult. You are an amazing author. You have brought the history of Scotland and the early America alive and weaved an amazing love story through it. Your attention to detail and historical accuracy is amazing. The time travel part makes it even more fascinating. I have always loved period novels, and these are absolutely the best. When reading them, you feel as if you are part of the story and they are waiting for your return if you put the book down. I have read all five and have started re-reading. I have never wanted to re-read a book so soon after reading it the first time. But it's as if you learn something new or different the second time. I think the first time you read it too fast because you want so desparately to find out what is going to happen next. But the second time, you savor each paragraph.
My husbands family is originally from Scotland. I am now on a quest to see if they were Highlanders. My husband, in appearance is probably more like Frank Randall (I don't want to think of Jack), medium height, dark and lean. So probably not much of the Viking ancestry there. But I fiercely love him anyway.
So....Thank you and keep up the good work. Debbie McCurry

QuŽbec, QC Canada - Tuesday, August 20, 2002 at 14:50:47 (EDT)To whom it may concern,
Just recently I went on a nine-day trip to Italy with my mother, I was looking forward to travailing into a ÒNew WorldÓ, seeing the old majestic ruins and lose my self in the counties rich history. Instead, for most of my trip I had my head buried into a hypnotic book, one that took me into a new world, and introduced me to the likes of the head strong heroin Claire Randall, the dreamy James Fraser, and the despicable Captain Randall. Within two days of my trip I finished the first book, Outlander. For the other7 days I re-read the book at least 3 times. If you are wondering, it was a great trip but I found the Italy got in the way of my book. I just got a hold of Dragonfly in Amber, and I am already hypnotized, not able to put it down. I would like to thank Mrs. Gabaldon for introducing me to this world of magic stones, romance, adventure, and suspense; there are no words to express my admiration. Thank you so much!

Upper Marlboro, M.d U.S.A - Tuesday, August 20, 2002 at 10:49:31 (EDT)Thank you so much to you and those whom have assisted you in creating such an outstanding series. To me it has been another life! I am so enthralled by it all, being of Scotch/Irish descent. I can actually feel the pain, the joy and the sorrow that all of the characters experienced.
Thank you for giving me this!

Yadkinville, NC USA - Tuesday, August 20, 2002 at 08:52:23 (EDT)Hi to whoever might read this,
I have to say that i love the Outlander series. My roommate started reading them and then she got me and about 5 of my friends hooked on them I've currently finished the fourth book and i'm about to start the fifth. I think they are amazing books. I can not believe how into the characters i have gotten. My friends and i speak about them like they are actual people. Jamie, what can i say about Jamie? He is the man that every woman wants. He's not only handsome, but smart and sweet and just amazing. I think that i might have to go to scotland and find him. If Ms. Gabaldon ever reads this, please know that i love the books and i appreciate her writing them.
Thanks,

I have just finished reading "Through the Stones" (Companion Guide) and now see that you pretty much answer everyone's most asked questions in this book.
- My, but there is a lot of "nit picking" that goes on behind the scenes with getting it EXACTLY perfect.
You could have written another novel if you didn't have to explain things to people like us! - but, THANKYOU.
I now know that Jamie is staying put in his own time!
- I also leaned your symbol jargon :) (hope I've got it right?)
I look forward to your two forthcoming novels (and the Ellen Fraser series etc. etc.).
Your life sounds so hectic and yet you seem to find so much time to write back to the various readers with their miltitude of questions - it's amazing.
I say people like me should be SHOT for wasting your valuable writing & family time.
Thankyou for many wonderful hours of reading. I keep taking half finished books back to the Library as I haven't found one since your series that I can get into. I'll keep looking though......
Regards,

Brisbane, Qld Australia - Thursday, August 15, 2002 at 23:31:26 (EDT)I have been looking for Jamie my whole life and am amazed that you have defined what lives in my dreams. Given "Outlander" recently as a gift, I reluctantly began. I enter "Voyager" tonight and hang on every scene. Your words make me laugh and cry but much, much more. They tug at that deep, dark, secret place...and it is almost as though Jamie were alive. ...I was stunned to read that there was a John Fraser who survived Culloden...any connection? I mistrust the word "fan" because of negative impression, but know this, I have become a great admirer of your words. Sincerely, Sharon Elaine West

Fort Lauderdale, FL USA - Monday, August 12, 2002 at 13:58:19 (EDT)Wonderful books! I discovered your series about six years ago. I found "Voyager" at a yard sale (Why anyone would sell one of your books is beyond me, but it was to my benefit so...) After realizing it was a series, I had to go get the first 2 books from the book store so I could read them in order. I LOVED THEM. I am an avid reader and I collect books and have all of the "Outlander" series and just finished rereading them again when "The Fiery Cross" came out. It was so much fun to travel with Claire again. Just as wonderful this time around with the added bonus of having my daughter join me on this trip. She is 15 now and just as big a reader as I am and we have had so much fun talking about the story. Thanks for giving me some wonderful afternoons with my daughter! We both await your future books! I do have a request though. We live in the mountains of Western North Carolina and you mentioned several places we know, like Black Mountain and Asheville were mentioned once. Could you please tell me where Fraiser Ridge and Cross Creek would be now? I loved thinking the story could be in my own back yard! My Mother is at the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture at Talisen near Scottsdale. I hope when we are visiting her you will be doing an appearance somewhere in the area. I'll have to check your appearance schedule when we are closer to a visit.

Candler, NC USA - Monday, August 12, 2002 at 12:39:19 (EDT)Dear Diana,
I have just discovered this website after reading The Companion. I can honestly say that of all the books and series of books which I have read over the years, none could even begin to compare to this series. I have recommended the Outlander series to everyone that I work with, and just about everyone who has any interest in reading, has now read them and enjoyed them thoroughly. You have woven such an intricate and exciting tapestry in this series. You most certainly accomplished your goal of learning to write a novel as all of us nurses have enjoyed the series so far.
I just lent my copy of "Fiery Cross" to one of the girls at work tonight. I told her not to stay up all night reading. Her reply was, "how do you know that I am going to start reading this tonight?" I told her that I am only too familiar with the eagerness of getting on with the story. She had left me a message on my answering machine this afternoon telling me that she had only 10 pages left so could she please borrow the next book. She had also just asked last night to borrow the book. I am patiently awaiting the next one.
You have enabled us to escape from the reality of everyday life. As nurses, that is something that I feel we need to do in order to keep our sanity as well as aiding in the prevention of job burnout! Thank you, thank you, thank you. I only wish this series could go on longer. You have made these characters so real to me that I feel as though they are people that I know. I look forward to reading more of your novels in the future. Again, thank you for making the decision to learn to write a novel!!
P.S. I apologise if I seem to ramble on a bit. I have just come home from a very long day at work and I am a bit sleepy.

Ottawa, Il USA - Monday, August 12, 2002 at 02:24:53 (EDT)Dear Mrs. Gabaldon! A very good friend of mine gave "Outlander" to me as a present on my 18th birthday and said:"You have to read this book, it's so wonderful!" At first I just thought: Okay, i will read it, but it can't be that good... I have never been so happy in being wrong! It IS that good!!! And every time I read it, it gets even better. Now I'm looking forward to read the 5th book soon and I just want to say: Thank you so much for giving all that to your readership.

Outlander series. It was the most intriguing series of books
I have ever had the pleasure of reading. I felt I was totally
absorbed in the plot. In fact, after reading the entire group
of books, I can't seem to find a single book that holds me so
spellbound as these books have done. You are an excellent
writer. I do hope that I will have the pleasure of reading

brantford, canada - Sunday, August 11, 2002 at 13:41:53 (EDT)I have read all of Diana's books and l have "my" hardbacks which I have imported from the States (I loved the covers (jackets) on these copies) and Diana was kind enough to sign them when she was out here in Australia. I have soft back copies which I specifically got to share with others who want to read them.
What I like about these books is you can almost believe you are there with Claire and Jamie. More than once have I been travelling on the train to work and find I have gone past my stop, I don't have to worry on the way home as I live at the end of the line!
I have noticed on the internet that there is another book "White Knight" by Diana coming out I'm told next year, is this the last in the series?
And finally I'd like to thank Diana for the many happy hours I have had reading her books.

I really enjoyed your talk at the bookshop in Norwich on the 8 August. I fell in love with Jamie as soon as I started to read Cross Stitch. Me and a million others of course. Your stories are so unputdownable! And the historical detail, and social detail is fascinating. At last, an author who cares about how women coped in those days with keeping clean, and basic hygiene matters. So many authors don't even bother to mention how people actually lived and coped with conditions.
I feel deprived if I am not reading one your wonderful books.
Thanks again.

Norwich, UK - Saturday, August 10, 2002 at 09:19:29 (EDT)I discovered Outlander for the first time when one of my friends who was in the united states send it to me. In France, we do not find a lot of books in the english language. It appeared that my friend did not send me the first book of the serie but it was Drums of automn. When I read it, I knew that I wanted absolutely to read all the others, and I entered then in Jamie's and Claire's life. Since this moment I have collected all the books from Diana Gabaldon. In English and in French. Even if I think that the story loses at the translation. This is a fabulous story, one of which we dream, one which enter in our life and never leave. I would like to thank Diana Gabaldon for this gift as it is the proof that human beings can still dream. I laughed and I cried and it was oh so good, that I thank her from the bottom of my heart.
Nevertheless, I would like to say that there were some mistakes in french expressions and sentences.Though It does not lower the quality of the novels.
Last, but not least, I am happy to say that it is the best novel ever written.

I think that it is a compliment well deserved. I have never been able to do that with any other books except maybe for James Mitchener. Please keep them coming, you really have the talent to make a person feel part of the story, to see it and the live it, Bravo!

Just a message to let you know that I read around 3 books a week and have never been so moved by a series of books as i have these. I read all 5 in around a month(as they are a lot larger than an average book i read!)and considering i turned my nose up when cross stitch was first lent to me I didn't do bad!!! You have inspired me to go to scotland and look up my family history as my grandmother is a Stuart and decends from a family line in Scotland. I hear you are writing another novel called farewell king.I hope it's not going to be the last or that jamie dies in it as life would be quiet without the Frasers in my life! Please email if you can and keep writing these wonderful books. You can change people's perception of happiness with these books and maybe even lives. I envy your amazing ability to create wonderful characters.Well done you!! Much love and admiration from an ardent gay british fan who is 24! Dominic Lee Kemp

don't be afraid Your novel's might be too long.
The truth is, they have to be more longer for my feeling.
I remember the first novel (thank the Lord I have seen there is more than one and took all three of them ;-))

At 3 a.m. I took the next book

I hope to read more next time, but I have to wait for the German translation, because my English knowledges are not good enough for the Original I guess.
Please go on writing

40699 Erkrath, Germany - Sunday, July 07, 2002 at 11:28:29 (EDT)Hi Diana,
Well, what can I say except your books have brought to me a passion and further obsession with Scotland. Since I was a child Scotland held a special place in my heart...and I can't say why. When I read your first book, Outlander, I was immediately drawn to Jamie and Claire. FUnny thing is, my grandmother was a McKinnon and her mother was a Fraser...weird of what?? Her ancestors came to the shores of Cape Breton Island during the famine you mentioned in your books in scotland. My grandfather's people migrated from England...not very proud of that one. Anyhow, I have finished voyager and have just started Drums of Autumn. I also have the Fiery Cross but haven't read those last two yet...give me about three weeks and it's a done deal...h a ha. Your writing technique is nothing short of amazing and your penchant for detail is very much welcomed. You seem to have captured the Scots and what they were all about in your books. What help in the research department did you get for finding out all about the Scots? What made you want to do a story about Jamie and Claire? Do you yourself come from any scottish blood? I also heard and read rumors that there may be a mini series based on your book the OUtlander. I"ve already e-mailed ABC to ask details and to give a subtle hint as to proper casting...ha ha. Any other books in the works? Well, dont' want to keep you from your writing any longer so I will say good bye for now. You are an amazing writer and person...thankyou for Jamie Fraser...

While watching Lord of the Rings with others who search for the perfect Jamie I observed one actor who played Aragorn(Viggo Mortensen) Now before you say WHAT just listen. High cheek bones, cat eyes, tall, strong, dye that hair red, teach the man how to sound like Divina Porters Jamie, and I believe its a close match..Clair is still a lovely faceless women but by the time I finish reading your last book and Divina Porter reads it youll have found her. Oh..If Divina Porter doesnt read your last book my life as a psy.nurse could be shattered. Once you have heard Divina Porter the others are pointless. Again Great books.. the only ones except the Good Earth worthy of being read and re-read. Thanks Bobbie

salt lake city, ut usa - Monday, April 29, 2002 at 17:47:23 (EDT)Dear Diana,
I've read 4 sequels of your Outlander-series and I am waiting for the Fiery Cross in translation. Maybe I can't wait that long and buy the original version!
I love the development of characters in the series.
Hope to read more about Mr. Raymond in another publication of you. My question to you is about him:
When he heals Claire after her miscarriage of her baby, I wondered if he's using Reiki or something. A lot of what he does with her, and what Claire does to herself when she's imagining yourneys into her own body, seems to me something like Reiki.
Thank you for reading my question (and hope you answer is some time),
Bye,
Babs.

Zoeterwoude, the Netherlands - Monday, April 29, 2002 at 11:17:02 (EDT)Hi Diana,
just a quick question. Did the mini series (Outlander) ever get started? I read the Outlander series and I like it very much. Hope you have lots and lots of ideas for other books. I especially like Jamie and Clair.
Thanks for your books.

Romney, WV USA - Monday, April 29, 2002 at 10:47:21 (EDT)Dear Diana,
I don't want to take up too much of your time so I'll make it quick. Thanks for such a wonderfully well written and well crafted series. I passed your books onto a friend of mine that to the best of my knowledge has read maybe three entire books in her whole life and she couldn't stop until she had read all four of them. (We live in England and only got the fifth a couple of months ago, she stole my copy of the new one five minutes after I finished it fourty eight hours after it went on sale!) Believe me there is no higher praise than capturing my friend's woefully short attention span for four books straight. Thank you very much for all your hard work and the countless hours of pleasure you have given us.
Respectfully.
Karen.

I can hardly wait for the next book. I've gotten all of my girlfriends to read the series. Everyone just loves it. You are a very gifted writer. Hope all is well with you. Thanks again!!

Chesterfield, MI - Wednesday, April 24, 2002 at 18:11:44 (EDT)Dear Diana, I've read all of your books, just finishing the last novel (loved it). I've asked you this question once before, a couple of years ago, and you hinted that all would be answered by the final novel. But my question still goes unanswered! help! In Outlander, Frank returns to the bed & breakfast he and Claire are sharing on their trip to Scotland (pre-stone tripping). As a storm approaches, Frank sees the ghost of a Highland laird...Jamie...looking at Claire through the window as she brushes her hair. But he disappears into the storm. I have read and re-read all the stories of Jamie and Claire. Did I miss something? This scene has haunted me throughout the reading of their story and I have always wondered if they would part in some time-travel, heart wrenching way. Please put my mind to rest and explain! Your devoted reader, Lisa Beasley
